Simone Jackson

"Photography has become my way of slowing down." That is how Dunedin-based photographic artist Simone Jackson describes her relationship with her photography. She says her goal is to create images that blur the line between reality and imagination, stating that her work is less about recording what she sees and more about expressing how a place or moment feels to her. Simone has found that her personal projects have become a way of quietening her busy mind whilst simultaneously deepening her appreciation for the beauty of the natural world as she searches for those special moments that not only inspire curiosity, but also connection.

Alongside her fine art practice, Simone has spent over two decades as a professional wedding photographer, where storytelling and genuine human connection remain at the heart of her work. She is a Grand Master of Photography (NZIPP) and an Associate of the Photographic Society of New Zealand (APSNZ). Her work has been recognised both nationally and internationally. In her current work, she is discovering how to portray an image that is not simply to be viewed, but is also very tactile inviting the viewer not simply to look but also to touch.
