Nicola Pye

Nicola describes present-day living as a world of endless scrolling, a world totally saturated with images. She believes that for many of us, genuinely desensitised by overexposure to the sheer volume of visual stimuli we encounter each day, 'the gaze' has evolved into a mere dismissive glance. And in that process, we seem to be losing our ability to find meaning in what we see, or to form any real connection to it. In a world that increasingly demands and splinters our attention, Nicola believes a successful image is one that makes you stop and take a proper look. Her goal is to make people pause for just a little bit longer than usual…to see the beauty in something ordinary. She says this second look can create a connection and awareness of the value or the essence of what we’re viewing.

The majority of Nicola’s images try to capture the beauty of things just as they are - as is where is. Having said that, she certainly is not above a bit of post-processing, to enhance the point of connection in an image and to add a bit of drama! This small selection of Nicola’s amazing images certainly show she seems to have achieved her goals…and then some. Enjoy!
